Forestry
Tanzania has about 33.5mn ha. of forests and woodlands. Out of this
total area, almost two thirds consists of woodlands on public lands.
About 13mn ha. of this total forest area have been gazetted as forest
reserves. Tanzania has 16 plantations covering a total area of 80,000
ha. Tree species planted include:
•
Pinus patula
• Pinus Caribaea,
• Pinus
Elliotii,
• Cuppressus Lusitanica,
• Cadrela Odorata,
• Tectona Grandis,
•
Terminalia spp,
• Podocarpus species,
• Juniperus Procera and
• Various
Eucalyptus species.
Most of these plantations are mature and ready for
harvesting. The demand for wood products is higher than the supply for
both domestic and export markets. Softwood and hardwood plantations
offer good opportunities to invest in establishment of wood based
industries such as: Sawmilling (Saw wood) industry ,Chipboard (Partial
boards) factories, Fibreboard (Hard board) manufacturing plants,
Furniture and joinery woodwork, Prefabricated structures and other
industrial wood use, Pulp and paper industries, Sawmilling (Saw wood)
