WFZC APPOINTS DR. MERU ITS GOODWILL AMBASSADOR


World Free Zones Convention (WFZC) held late last year at Ras Al Khaimah, the United Arab Emirates, appointed Director General of Tanzania's Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) Dr. Adelhelm Meru the Goodwill Ambassador for EPZs in the East African Region.
Dr. Meru was appointed to the new post with eight other members across the world, according to a statement issued and signed by WFZC Chairman Graham Mather.

The new ambassadors would among other duties, represent their zones in the WFZC meetings for three consecutive years. The statement said that the envoys will submit performance reports in every WFZC annual convention."These ambassadors together with investment stakeholders from their countries will also share views on how to improve the sector towards expected achievements", the statement said.

The WFZC Chairman said that the appointments were a result of a thorough vetting based on individual ambassadors performance in their roles of promoting free export zones."Our decision on these appointments has come after seeing the importance of getting detailed information from the EPZs all over the world and their tenure would be three years", the statement said.

It further noted that the ambassadors will also brief WFZC on the way forward to EPZs development activities so as to improve the sector and achieve the desired goals. Other WFZC appointed ambassadors are Randy Campbell, President, Campbell Trade Group Inc in the US who will cover North America, Mr. Luis Oliveira, a Brazilian who will be in charge of South America and Mr. Newlyn Seaton, a Jamaican who has been given the task to oversee Central American region.

Others are Mr. Alberto Castronovo from Italy who will cover the Europe zone, Mr. Ramzi Zammali, a Tunisian will be the envoy for North Africa, Mr. Oussama El Omari from UAE will cover the Middle East/GCC countries, Thai's John Evans (Asia) and Dr. Noble Abe, a Nigerian will manage the West African region.
